Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria - Lagos

Nonprofit organization created in 2005.

Areas. Poetry, literature, publishing, theater, visual arts and multimedia, fashion, film, music, dance.

Activities. The main objective of KKM is to improve the social status of Africans through culture. He wants to re-orient public of Nigeria and the continent towards their own arts and traditions, correct the false visions that the rest of the world can have them, animate platforms where young and old can discuss the risks to African heritage and seek solutions, promote the use of indigenous languages, and cultivate the difference of culture and African arts while connecting them to the world and promoting intercultural dialogue. KKM is particularly interested in literary arts such as poetry, storytelling and traditional singing, which were once the main media for the education of young people and which, together with new technologies, can still play a key role in promoting heritage, arts, ethics and African cultural values. According to KKM, poetry and literary arts are a major social entertainment and could become such a lucrative business that music.

In this context, KKM organizes Poetry Potter, a monthly platform where poets, storytellers, traditional singers and dancers can freely demonstrate their talents and make them known to cultural operators and journalists. In 2009, he participated in the organization of the first edition of the Poetry Festival sponsored by GTBank and will become annual. He also initiated with the Lagos Centre of Contemporary Art an innovative project named PAGES, which aims to bring the visual arts and literary arts.

Resources. KKM works with 3 permanent and ten volunteers. His office has adequate facilities for its activities (computer equipment, projectors, video players and television).

Professional network. KKM collaborates with several organizations in Nigeria: Association of Nigerian Authors, Centre for Contemporary Art Lagos, Committee for Relevant Art (CORA), Goethe Institute etc.
